Good evening,
Well, I have been using WinXP Home for three days and already have my first foul-up.
I was taking several of the shortcuts that came preinstalled on my desktop and putting them in another desktop folder I call 'Seldon Used Shortcuts'.
Somehow and I don't know how I deleted a shortcut called 'Game Channel' when I meant to 'cut' it and then paste it in my new folder. Before I realized it I had emptied my Recycle Bin.
Now, the problem is when I go to Start > Programs > Games > Game Channel > it still shows all the original games like Blasterball2, Overball, Crystal Maze, Super Granny and several others. However, now when I click on any of those games Windows starts searching for 'onplay.exe'
When it finishes searching it says: " ... The item 'onplay.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly..."
It then gives me the option of deleting this shortcut which I haven't done.
Is there any chance to get the 'Game Channel' games working again?
Thanks and regards,
Phil

nope, your deleting of the shortcut on your desktop has nothing to do with it. The way it works is the file "onplay.exe" is opened with the shortcut from the game shortcut you press. So either 2 things is wrong. The path is wrong, or onplay.exe is corrupt.
First things first make your way to C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps and make sure there is file called onplay.exe. Now I posted up my current verison of onplay on my server. download it and replace it withe the one you currently have. http://www.nathan.jamontoast.net/computingnet/onplay.exe
Try it.
if it still doesnt work then make your way to the Wild Tangent folder in your start menu. right click blaster ball 2 and make sure the target says this... ""C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\onplay.exe" C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\GameChannel\Games\350CC34B-2B8E-4EE5-AE4D-F04FDF37DC39\Blasterball2Launch.exe"
alright let me know how it works out,
Nathan Rooke

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for the response. I will check it out further tonight after work and update you on my progress.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

Hi Nathan,
I made a quick check and it looks like I lost more than the 'Game Channel' shortcut.
I can't find any reference to 'Wild Tangent' in either my Start Menu or C:\Programs.
I also did a quick search of my registry using 'Regedit' and it found nothing for 'Wild Tanget' either.
I will check back in after work in case you think I still have a chance of recovering this option.
Thanks and regards,
Phil

wild tangent is considered adware by most utilities that check for such so if you have run one it may have deleted the pest.

well getting it back besides doing a system recovery is alot of trouble for some games that expire in a month anyways. Since theres no registry values for wild tangent I'de say FJG is right on. If you have an adware removal tool check to see if theres a recovery option. You could also use the system restore tool, that might work.
In the mean time if you want to play some games try Zone Games,
Nathan

Hi Nathan and fjb,
No problem. I am not a 'gamer' anyway. If 'Game Channel' was nothing more than a temporary freebie I won't miss it at all. I seem to recall one of my spyware programs putting the axe to something like 'Wild Tangent'.
I will just leave well enough alone and forget about it.
Thanks for your time and information.
Regards,
Phil
