Lost files after using Sys Restore.

How to get back some files after using System Restore? My computer runs WindowsXP. Recently I have used System Restore to restore my computer to an earlier time and I was successful in restoring it. Then I realize that I have lost some program files (*.exe) that I have already downloaded from internet and saved them in D drive. CAN I GET THEM BACK? Does System Restore delete all files except saved documents, emails, history and favorite list? Thank you very much.

you can reverse the system restore, back up the files and try again

you can move anything you don't want system restore to touch into your my documents folder as system restore leaves this folder alone when restoring

As Ian says - or - it seems you have more than one Drive..
...you can set System Restore to Restore the C Drive only - assuming that's where your OS is...

Thanks for your help. I have tried to move back to the previous restore point to get back my files, but it doesn't work. How can I choose files or directories that I don't want system restore to touch (as Ian said)?

I'm not sure if you can help, but my girlfriend is having a similar problem with her MAC powerbook. Something was wrong with her DVD software and to correct the problem she used the system restore disk. She selected software restore and ran it. When her computer came back up ALL of her personal files had been erased -- Including some of her Internship portfolio. Is there any way to restore those files? Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thanks, drew.
