and run a scan in forensic mode. great likelyhood to recovery most of the files.

Try file scavenger, they have a demo program and you will see what is on your drive. I had a client that had PC problems and the Dell techs told her to reformat her drive and re-install XP, never telling her that she would lose all her info and many years of pics which were stored on her HD.

She called me crying that she lost everything. I had her ship me her HD which I slaved to my PC and I tried GetDataBack and it didn't work well. I also tried a few others and instead of name files, everything was an orphan file with #'s for names. I finally tried File Scavenger and recovered almost 5,000 of her pics (all named) and tons of her document files. She was an extremely happy camper. FS last year was $39.99 but I think it went up to $49.99 like all the other software in that field.
I swear by it, because it does work...Good Luck

P.S. the more programs you put on after a reformat, the less chance you have of retrieving your files.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Thanks for the link per, have you tried watching the vid called watchit for that software? It says you need macromedia flash player 7 to view it. I tried it with both IE and firefox and neither one works, just keep getting that message. Anyone else having that same problem viewing that demonstration?

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Here is another D/L link. I was able to watch the flash ok even though it is in German. Seems you may not have fixed the flash player after all. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/smartr...

hmmmmm, strange. I'm just wondering if my xp installation has some errors in it. I tried 3 different browsers and get the same message about installing that player So obviously it is not browser related whether it be IE7, Firefox, Crazy Browser or Opera. I did an sfc /scannow and evrything shows fine. Funny thing is, I can view youtube flash, yahoo flash with all my browsers.
I guess a bit of research coming up again LOL.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I have found I sometimes had to manually remove the objects in IE6 setting and run the flash uninstaller and reinstall. REGSCRUB was screwing up the registry settings.

per, funny thing is, I'd really hate to remove the flash player that is working now on youtube and yahoo, I don't think it's worth it because of an advertising flash I can't view. Thanks a bunch on your help and I think I'll just leave things as they are.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
