Hi,

I've got a maxtor 200GB hard drive and its recently come up with a msg saying that the hdd needs formatting. The is no longer showing any data present.

Any ideas on how to restore this?

Sounds like the drive is failing.

#1 Back-up any data you can.
#2 Download and run Maxtor's diagnostic program.

yeah thats what i thought, cheeers guys.

I'll see how i get on with winhex too.

Might try the freezer method too, i heard something catching earlier.

XP is known to lose drives. Many times there is not a problem with the drive itself. If the data is valuable, try Partition Doctor.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
