I think I have finaaly got this posting thing down. My problem, besides not using the noggin, is that I ran a regseek reg cleanup and even though I check the bascup before deleting box, I seem to have lost my COMMAND.exe file. Whenever I click on drive C: in MY COMPUTER a message says: UNABLE TO LOCATED COMMAND.exe. Am I up the famous creek withou a paddle? My os is xp-pro from a lost disk(I know, another bonehead move)and don't have access to the disk. Any help greatly appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, you backed up your registry cleanup and now you can't reverse the change? I believe you, but something else must be going on as well.
Additionally, RegSeeker does not have the capability to delete/remove .exe files, only registry keys which may point to them.
Reboot into Safe Mode and try Last Good Configuration.
