lost cd drive

i am trying to fix a laptop that can't find the cd drive. the device manager screen is empty. the "my computer" shows c drive and d drive but no cd rom drive. the lap top does not have a floppy drive. i cannot get it to go on the internet, it just says page cannot be found, no matter what url in put in. please help.

Try this if you are comfortable editting the registry. Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit. Look for;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass. Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters] Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values. Exit regedit and reboot.
