Hi All, I installed XP (from CD) and it worked fine for 3-4 weeks. I applied all critical and several non-critical updates. And some time down the line my XP lost access to CD ROM: it recongnizes the drive in the Device Manager, but marks it with (!); in the drive properties window it tells me that the driver is corrupt or cannot be loaded (error code 39). I did not have either Easy CD creator or Nero on this machine (and never had). I've found Microsoft's article Q314060, but it's not applicable, because I do not have Upperfilters and/or Lowerfilters where it says in my registry. Does anyone know some other remedy ? I had a similar problem. I did a repair reinstall, and it seemed to fix it. The repair reinstall replaces the Windows files in the registry, but leaves your other setting as they are. You'll have to boot from a repair CD though.

Had the same problem some weeks ago and had to reformat . . . even reformatting couldn't get acces to my Cdroms. So I use the "six Disketes" for WinXP Installation in order to have winxp OS. Sorry, keep waiting for a better soluttion

Have you guys use another CD Rom to install Windows XP?
