My computer is set up over a LAN. All the computers on the LAN were given a windows login of USERNAME: User and No Password. I had access to a network printer when I had no password on the login but once I gave myself a password I lost access or permission to the printer on the network. Why do I lose access when I set the password on my machine? I can see losing access if the machine that the printer is connected too adds password protection.

Maybe this is your solution>

Cannot Use Network Printer If Your Password Is Not Saved (user gets--Access Denied, Unable to Connect)

I must say, your DA must not have ANY interest in securing your network. Just an observation.

Thats not it. It is the windows login. When I gave myself a password for my login and I lost access to the printer. Like when I windows XP starts It shows the Icon User and before it automatically logged in because I didnt have a password but once I set a password for some reason I lost access to the network printer. Before giving myself a password I was able to print fine.

Its all to do with profiles. In W2K, XP and W2003, the add printer wizard installs a printer for the currently logged on user. Now you have a password, you have created another profile and you cant see the printer. You can use the 'PrintUIEntry' command to make the printer available for all users. Have a look here

Hope this is of some use.

Have you tried running Network Setup since you setup this password? Windows may not see this unit as part of the old network anymore. It's been changed! Just reestablish the network by running Network Setup. Or try running Printer Setup.

If you have already tried these steps please ignore me
