Does anyone know of a free program that can 1)bypass a read-only disc 2)create a multi-session disk? Thank you

you need to be a bit more specific...such as...are you refering to CD or DVD discs?

finalizing a burned re-writable cd or DVD disc is extremely proprietary proceedure and to over come any "read only" attributes would be to import the previous session...which actually
overwrites part of the file-system to redirect the burning software drivers to new file-system directories and can only be accomplished by reading the other meta data stored on the disc which is only readable by the program that did the finalization to begin with.

There is no multi-session with a DVD as the formatted structure doesn't understand sessions.

also the read only attributes is primarily a security issue to stop people from over-writing their own data.

By the nature of a CDR any data on the disk is read only. You should be able to copy and paste the data to another location and then change the attributes of the files by unticking read only.

I use Roxio CD/DVD creator 6 and it will create multi-session CDR or DVDR disks.

you need to finalize the sessions as you burn them but NOT finalize the disk.

Have a look at the website linked below for more concise help with your project.

As I stated above any optical media that can only be written to once but not erased and rewritten will automatically mark all files as read only. I believe the best method to create your project is to save the elements to the dard drive and when you have it in order as you want it then burn to DVD.

DVDRW will allow you to edit but I believe this is very cumbersome to do. There is a third format called DVD-RAM that is designed to work like you want. If your combo drive (burner) is capable of using that media you caqn explore that option.

I am a newby when it come to projects like you want to do myself. Try the link below.

To do what you require, I'd buy a 4GB USB Flash Drive, as you can add, delete, and copy your pictures at will.
They are as cheap as chips these days and require no specialized knowledge. Better still, they are faster and more user friendly.

If you still want to burn CD/DVD's I'd recommend using Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008, it's awesome! (as compared with the cumbersome Nero) and effortless to use.
