Looking for old sound card driver

I am trying to put together an old computer for my niece, but the sound doesn't work. I put Windows XP Pro on it and when it loaded up, it couldn't find any drivers for the sound card. It is an internal sound device, so I can't take it out to see what kind it is to find drivers for it. I don't even know what motherboard it has. Is there any way to find out what kind of driver I need? Thanks for any help.

Michelle,
You might try doing a Google search for Belarc Advisor. It might provide some clues for your system. It will generate a complete report of what you have and if the items you need are identifiable it will tell you.
There's also another program, Sandra, I think it's from SiSoftware, it's been a while but I think that's it. This will also get a lot of information about your machine.
Good luck Ron

Actually, one of the best ways to find out what kind of motherboard it has is to just do a google search using the motherboard's serial number (when i was a technician, this was an invaluable tool). You can also try model numbers as well.
