With time and use, your computer can become a bit disorganized. As the info stored in your computer gets used, moved, copied, added to, or deleted, the computer's drives can become cluttered with useless or inefficiently organized files. Deframentation speeds up disk performance.

Right-click on the desired drive in My Computer->Properties->Tools tab->Deframent Now button.

Hope this helps. Bye

Hi, It may not be a fragmentation issue, although I would have a shot at that first. I also have the same problem, right click a doc, right click the task bar, open a doc or move a doc using the new menu on the left - all of these operations cause me to freeze for over a minute sometimes.

Can anyone help? My machine is only a month old (hence I question the use of a defrag), Dell Inspiron 8100, 1.8ghz with 256 megs of RAM - surely my problem isnt RAM ?

Hi Graham, I have been trying to determinate de delay cause and I discovered the next thing: In my case I have the TCP/IP protocol active, so when I deactivate the TCP/IP, my systems works FINE. That's is very strange...

Now if I want to open my local files from the explorer i need to stop the TCP/IP protocol in order to avoid this delays. Can anybody help us?

Next try I will reinstall the NIC driver...
Regards.
