Hello -
I have a small issue i'd like to try to resolve. I bought a second hard drive, and when it is installed, it takes forever for my pc to load up to the desktop. I know this isn't normal. My current system:
Windows xp, x64 pro
2 gig, pc3200 ram
2 nvidia 6800 ultra's in SLI
1 74gig Western DiGital Raptor 10,000 RPM HDD--Additional HD--
250 gig, IDE HD, set to secondaryMy primary hard drive is a SATA, secondary is IDE. I was told that shouldn't make a difference like that in boot times.
I've currently tried:
Entering BIOS setup, making sure i boot from primary HD.
Reformatting the secondary HD to make sure no boot sectors are on there.
Changed around the cd rom & 2nd HD IDE cablesI'm just not sure what else to do to make the computer boot up like it used to :(
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried Enhaced mode and Compatible Mode in BIOS.
I have never used windows x64 pro but,I think you have a BIOS setting problem.

Hi,
Have you tried disconnecting the second drive temporarily,
What size is your Power supply in watts.
With additional hardware you may not have neough current available on the PSU rails, this may slow down your hard drives.

Thanks everyone -
I figured out the issue.. stupid on my part.I have a big enough power supply. Its a modular 600wt PSU. I also tried to disconnect the second drive, and when i did it booted up in a couple seconds.
I did some research, and found that the jumper was placed, i'm guessing, incorrectly. When i bought it, the diagram said "3-4 secondary". I went to the website, and read up on SATA, and EIDE drives, and about the different jumper configurations... Turns out, you dont' even need the stupid thing connected.
I removed it, and the pc boots up nice and fast.
Thanks all for getting back to me!
