long boot delay with USB printer

After successfully installing the USB printer hp psac 1210 I am experiencing much longer boot delays on XP. I used to be able to use file explorer and other apps as soon as the desktop became visible (although another 30 sec wait to be able to access the internet due to the firewall setup delay). Now I have to wait 3 minutes before I can do much of anything, including just using file explorer. I'm using a Dell xps t450 PIII and encountered a similar USB delay when I installed an APS uninterrupted battery supply (the solution for that was to leave the UBS's USB disconnected until after boot-up). Any thoughts? I tried turning USB legacy on/off in BIOS but no effect. Thanks.
