Assistance needed by anybody that my have had this happen to them. Can't logon with any of my existing profiles. At the screen where the accounts/profiles are listed (including Administrator) if I hit Ctrl/Alt/Del I can get to a network "style" login screen. I noticed in the title bar a message indicating that the Security Log is full and can only be rectified while logged on as an Administrator. Normally that would be fine but in this case each account gets redirected immediately to a Saving Settings and logging off after entering a password (or no pswd on my Admin account). I can see the contents on the drive and can copy files and directories to a USB storage device using Knoppix CD but I can't login to this PC. I even copied one of my profile folders to the USB and transferred those settings to another PC running XP Home and my login worked fine....settings and all so I know it isn't a pfofile problem. Is this some sort of virus? Please help...I need to get to Quicken!

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Safe Mode? (press F8 as windows starting loading - select from menu). If so, you could have a look in event viewer to see if any obvious error messages (run eventvwr.msc).

You could also try a repair reinstall - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315341 (best done with slipstreamed install disk at same service pack level as your installation, if your original install disk is not).

Thanks for the reply. F8 already exhausted as an option....no go! Tried booting to the repair level from the Windows CD that came with the PC from the store but didn't have proper instructions on how to proceed from the Windows command line. I'll check out your link and see if that has what I need. What do you think may have caused this? I ran a Norton scan the same day and quarantined a number of items but didn't expect this to happen after rebooting.
