Please help!!! I seem to have developed a problem with XP when first booting up the computer. Before getting to the Welcome screen the machine pops up with an error message that says:
"The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct....."
Now, if i simply press ok the error message disappears and i can log on as intended.
But this error message is getting really annoying and i really hope i can get shot of it!!
Now, I think the problem has "developed" after a sysprep and clone using norton ghost. I have hunted everywhere for a solution but cannot seem to come across one! I have noticed that if i turn the welcome screen and fast switching off, this error no longer appears but I no longer have the use of account with passwords!!
I hope this makes sense and I really hope someone can help
Many thanks!!

How
to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP
To help troubleshoot error messages or other
issues when you cannot determine the cause of
the issue, disable common startup programs,
settings, and drivers to eliminate possible
software conflicts when you start Microsoft
Windows XP. This procedure is known as
"clean booting."To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:
Task List Programs

Okay, many thanks I will give that a go. Any ideas to what the cause might be - anybody come across this before?

You also could
Go to:
Search the Knowledge BaseUnder "Advanced Search":
Next to the word FOR, type:system could not log you on
Then click the arrow button.
You can now look through some articles for yourself, to see
if there is any help there.
NOTE:
Check the bottom of any article to see if it applies to your edition of XP (Home or Pro).
