You will have set an administrator password. Administrator will not show on the log on screen, but you can still log on as Administrator like this: press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice. This will present the older Win 2K logon. Type in Administrator as the user name and enter the password you set for it. Once logged in you'll be able to see if you've set any user accounts on your PC. If not, try not to use the Administrator account inless absolutely necessary. Set up a user account and use that. The reasons for this are: Administrator has full control and the account cannot be disabled. All logging is enabled as Administrator by default, this will make things slower. Using the Administrator account for access to the internet will increase the probability that someone else will know the password and be able to have full access to your workstation.

OK, had too much to drink, but I have a big thing about security after working for one of the largest manufacturers for Marks & Spencer (UK). I was only hired for two weeks to tidy up some cables. I stayed for 7 months and upgraded the whole network, wortstations, servers, net printers, switches, routers, etc etc etc. I like boasting, I've just been unfairly dismissed from a bloody card shop for taking a day off to take my fiancée to casualty for appenditis and organise her time off work and care after her operation. Bloody sexual discrimination! I was the only bloke! And before that, the only man before me had also been dismissed in a similar manner. I'm due in to work tomorrow (part of my notice) and I'm going to turn up late! To add to that, my mother went in on the same day for other urgent matters, my fiancée needs a month to recover from the operation and we're getting married in a month! Damn! I hate cards! If you never receive a card from me, this is why! Amen!

OK, that was my rant for this evening. For the week really, but I'll get over it. Ignore me and I hope some of what I've said is useful if not amusing. I'm smiling still.

Mike
