I am repairing a computer with xp home and they went and put a boot leg copy of windows xp media edition on it - the problems it has are virus, trojans and all goods that like to corrupt the register - also when trying to logon it immediately logs off - reformat reinstall is not a option because of doc and pic - I have tried safe mode same thing logs on log off - I have tried a repair, copy userinit, slaving to another hard drive in another computer, hiving the register, nothing works - I have direction for copying user profile I just don’t remember where I put the direction - I will try any suggestion any thing

Use something like Partition Magic and split the Hard Drive into two partitions. Then load XP on the new partition and boot to it. You can then transfer all of your .Doc and Pictures to the new partition.

Then erase and format the s--- partition. Then resize the new partition to cover the whole Hard Drive space.

You will NEVER be happy until you get that drive completely formatted and reloaded with a fresh copy of XP. After you get the above tasks completed , you should save the .Doc files and the Pictures to disk and then wipe that drive and start over.

southern,

When you are unable to logon to Windows XP and you get logoff immediately (the so-called logon-logoff loop), the problem may be due to a malware named BlazeFind. This malware is capable of causing two known problems: the logon-logoff loop and the presence of Search Assistant Toolbar in the taskbar.

This page list the methods from which you can use to try to cure the malware. If the customer only have recovery CD or restore CD (no bootleg CD), you're out of luck. You will need native Windows XP CD to access the recovery console.
