I've been having big problems with my computer latley. The lock ups are so bad in normal XP that once past log in, I cannot open a program without a lockup. Even in safe-mode, random lockups happen. Sometimes safe mode will not even get to the log in screen before locking up, yet the longest I've kept it open for without a lockup is an hour. I have checked for adware/spyware and viruses, with nothing coming up. I have ran error checker, and I tried running SFC, but it won't seem to work. The lockups give me no blue screen, and I am forced to hard reboot every time. Could this be corrupted hardware or very badly corrupted software? My Floppy disk controller seemed to be corrupted, and I disabled that, but it didn't fix the problem. Any help greatly appreciated.
When life gives you lemons, make beef stew.

Yes, I have tried to scan for errors, but the computer always locks up/reboots on stage 4.
The most recent software I installed was Battlefield 2, but that was almost 2 weeks ago. I installed some new sound drivers, but that was after I was having sound/locking up issues with the game. That problem eventually led to this.
