I had win98se installed on my primary hard drive. I then went on to install XP on a second harddrive that I bought. I managed to configure XP and get it up and running perfectly. I wanted to make my NEW hard drive (slave) the system drive and the master hard drive. So I made the new
drive->master and the old drive slave but I could not get the Xp drive(new) to become a system drive. If I removed the old system drive(wit 98se), the pc would not boot. So I edited the system registry under Xp(i read that on the net) and now I am locked out of Xp.First of all I would like to know how can I change my system drive. I want the XP hard drive(new) to be the system drive (I have kept it as primary master.)
Secondly when I boot to Xp, I get teh boot screen and then instead of the Xp screen with welcome on it and Xp loading, I get a screen with the same colors (as the welcome screen) but just windows XP written on it and the pc halts.
PLEASE I WOULD LIKE SOME GOOD ADVICE!!!!!!!

I assume you were dual-booting Win98SE and XP before your problem, correct? The problem you are having is being caused by the fact that your old hard drive contains the boot sector from which your computer boots. Your new hard drive does not contain a boot sector, thus it will not boot into XP. Unfortunately, if you make your new hard drive your system hard drive and have XP as your primary OS, you will no longer be able to dual-boot with Win98SE. In order for dual-boot to work, you need to install XP into a a secondary partition and keep Win98SE on your C: drive. As far as you being locked out, I do not know what changes you have made to your registry.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!

This is why we BACK UP the registry folks before you make any type of change to it. Oh well.
Laters,
