Clean install on formatted drive. Athlon 900mhz, 512mb DDR, VIA chipset, 3com NIC. XP works fine with network cable disconnected. Once you hook up the cable it locks up about 75% of the time. Have tried using router and crossover cable, 3 different NIC's. Works fine with WIN 98. Other computer on XP has no problems. Anyone seen this?

Finally someone observed the same miracle. 1 sec after inserting the cable into the NIC (I tried realtek and 3com) on a DFI K6BV3 Motherboard with AMD K6 my system freezes. HAving the cable inserted while booting the system freezes. Booting the same machine with win98se everything works fine. And now the best part: Booting XP in SAFE-Mode, the network connection works fine. I would realley appreciate someone solving my problem.
BY the way: I tried my Notebook with XP on the same cable and it works too. It must be Hardware related.
