I have installed XP on a Biostar m7vib mother board with athlon 1.4 gig adm processor using on board sound and Graphic force nvida tnt vanta 16 mb 2x vidio card. have lucent winmodem. The problem I have is that anytime I shut down the system when i reboot I lock up at the little green lights. Have to power down and reboot thus coming up in safe mode. Doing nothing except going to start, turn off computer then restart then bingo I'm back up and running. Have installed all the xp drivers and have no problems once running but have little software running. Want to solve this first. Have any Ideas!!!!

It's your nvidia TnT. I have almost the same configuration and got lockups. Try this: Very helpful before trying to fix it, is the NVIDIA Driver de-installer: http://www.btinternet.com/~bobruck/download.html It gives you a clean slate before trying the fixes. Major issue is definitely the shared IRQ problem. XP slappes all your cards on the same IRQ, and the GeForce just can't handle that. In order to fix that, deactivate ACPI and Plug and Play (PnP) in your BIOS, install XP clean with all inbox drivers. Make sure, that the GeForce has it's own IRQ (Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - System - Hardware - Device Manager: Check IRQ under Resources Tab. Check all other Devices the same way, and make sure, none is using the same IRQ!) Then install the newest NVIDIA Driver. I use 21.83 and it works just fine.
