When connecting a Windows XP Pro workstation to a Windows Domain, what access should the user have on the local machine? should they have admin rights to the local machine, or just " restricted user" rights? Is there a standard for this process?

Best practices suggest that each user only be allowed the least amount of rights. See the MS site under 2003 server for more ideas. There is a lot of info about it if you keep looking. See also technet.

Depends on the situation.. I have Admin rights to my workstation while others do not.. I wouldnt think there really is a standard.. it depends on the users needs to do their job effectively.

Some I could remove the local administrator for the Windows XP workstation? Enabling the user to access either the domain or local computer with "restricted rights" only.

Using the method we use for the company I work for the best way is to start with basic permissions for the users. If they are working with some software packages that require installation permissions you might need to upgrade them to power user.
