i've been having problems with my dsl connection where it is running extremely slow until i realized under my network connections that i have an extra icon that states "local area connection thru linux IGD" i can't disable or delete it unless i unplug my modem and when doing so around 60-70 url pop ups occur after this i re-connect and my internet is 10x faster then it was before when i restart my computer the same icon reappears with the same issue is there a way to disable or block this is this a hack of someone hogging my resources

is your modem USB? the machine sounds like it looks at the modem as its gateway and puts the ICON in network connections...as far as your connection being slow and gettin URL pop-ups that sounds like adware/spyware/virus
download, update and run Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, Hijack This and i recommend CA (Computer Associates) EzAntiVirus for virus protection
