Loading xp home upgrade

I am having trouble upgrading from win 98 to xp home. On install WINNT32 caused an invalid page fault in
module KRNL386.exe at 0002:00007bf8.i ,any ideas.Win 98 was a clean install before loading xp.

do a deletree of the windows Directory and then boot from the xp cd and do a clean install

Always do a clean install on a formated HD this will eliminate so many potential problems, if you have the 98 disks or CD then you are laughing your xp home upgrade will do the work.

Thanks for the advice.
Iv'e formatted a few times trying with xp cd,
also with xp bootdisk copied off of internet,same problem.Im not sure how to delete windows dir in dos, any advice welcome.

boot to dos with a windows 98 boot disk
change to c:\
type deletree windows
then run cd setup!!
