I have a laptop with no internal CD player, so I wanted to repair my windows xp but I can't - it won't boot from the external CD player. Can I take the laptop Hard drive out, load the xp onto it using an ATA adapter and my desktop ( Windows 7 ) and then put it back into my laptop?

Short answer: No.

Due to differences in required drivers this is possible only for systems that are very similar.

Your best option is to create USB drive with the installation files. I haven't done this so cannot provide the details.
