My XP-Pro based pc has suddenly started not being able to follow .lnk s I believe that is a registry problem and have d/l a fix, but that fix requires regedit, and because of the lnk problem I cannot get it to work! Any ideas on how to fix my problem?

(that's probably the file you have)

Have you tried the following?
Start, Run and then type:
regedit -s "C:\somePath\myRegFile.reg"
where you substitute the appropriate path
