Liteon DVDRW drive is choosy w/ CDs

May 3, 2010 at 19:48:28
Specs: win xp sp2, p4 1ghz/128MB ram x2
my friend has this old computer that he wants to use,
i tried to place my liteon dvdrw (which works perfectly fine on my computer with higher specs) in replacement of his
cdrw drive. when i turned the computer on, the drive
appeared in My Computer. it read a few cds, but most
of the cds that i insert can't be read...

i checked the device manager and there's nothing
wrong with the drive.. it says that the device is
working properly... what could be the problem? is the
low RAM affecting how the dvdrw drive reads the cds?

thanks in advance.

icoy08, insufficient RAM could well be the cause, but sorta doubt it. Even pretty primitive machines had enough to handle a drive. I'd suspect driver instead. Seems likely to me that the original ones didn't know what to do with technology that hadn't been invented when created. Update the older machine?

Upgrading the machine was also one of my options.. it's pretty
outdated for today's softwares.
