List of problems with XP so far

Here is my configuration:

Athlon T-Bird 900
Giga-Byte GA 7ZX-1 Board
Via Kt-133a Chipset, Latest 4-1 drivers (4.35)
512mb SDRAM 133Mhz
Sound Blaster Live Value
Guillemot Xentor TNT 2 Video Card

Here is a list of problems I have had with XP Pro so far:

- System slows down to crawl after a while, for no apparent reason. Every operation takes forever. I had to reinstall 3 times for that alone.

- My sound card now sounds like garbage. Awful crackling sound in most games. Installed the most recent drivers. Nothing. There is no conflicts in my system and the card has its own IRQ (10). Even changed PCI slots. Everything was fine in Win 2000.

- My Cd Burner won't work anymore. It's a TEAC IDE W58E. XP detects it and says it is a SCSI drive. It reads CD but when I insert a blank CD it says "Incorrect funtion" every time I try to access it. In short I can't burn CDs. It also has problems with audio cd. They don't play and "Autoplay" does not work anymore. It worked fine in 2000. It also worked when I upgraded from 2000 instead of doing a clean install.

- My scanner won't work anymore. It is a Acer 620 p model. XP did inform me that there would be compatibility issues. No drivers out yet. No word from Acer.

In short since a installed XP:
- My system is unstable
- I can't play games with sound anymore
- I can't burn CDs
- I can't scan

Other than that it's great... If someone could help me please... I'm tired of reinstalling the OS all the time...

When I see someone post that many problems and I have never encountered any of these problems I have to wonder and ask where did you obtain your copy of Xp from, is it legit. I have a sound blaster live value myself and never have had any problems with the sound in any games, not that I play a lot of them but Quake III threw my Game Voice Head set sounds great as well as threw my main speakers. Burner has always worked without problems using Roxio's EZCD 5.0 with patches installed. Scanner has worked great as well. If you are using a legit copy then what is it? If you are not using a legit copy then you are getting what you asked for, problems.

KTTD: Thanks for your response. Not that helpful though... My Copy is legit and this forum is full of people with strange problems. I have found many messages with the same kind of problems in Google groups also, just no answer. I am not a MSFT basher. I just want the things that were working in 2000 to work in XP. Is that too much to ask?

I have the same problems with Windows XP on my new Compaq Presario 2700 US w/ 512 MB Ram . My HP Officejet 600 won't scan & neither will my microtek 4700 even though I loaded the "new" drivers. I also can't shut down my machine without the same bsod error message as Danny. It appears Microsoft scammed the public & put out a product without doing enough testing.

I had similar sound problems with my sound blaster live card, but I used the microsoft auto update and it installed a patch to fix such problems.
My only other problem is with B17II It installed but will not run and Hasbro say they are not planning on updating OLD games.
They seem to have forgot it only came out last year. Most of my hardware has worked fine with W2000 drivers.

Dali,

Follow this link:

Choose the forums tab and search for postings specific to your board and chipset. Any posting by "Klondikekit" is reliable (helped me out tremendously).

Your problem to me sounds like an IRQ issue (I know you checked). My problem with the Live card on my board was solved by moving the card to the 3rd PCI slot and reserving IRQ 5 in the BIOS. YOUR BOARD MAY BE DIFFERENT!!! Do not try this without researching first.

I'm back to W2K for now. I have a OEM version of Home and it will either lock up and reboot after a bit or keep giving me a window with a problem has happend every time I reboot the PC. Sometimes it goes into a reboot mode as in it reboots and then upon booting reboots again. I'm using a DFI AK-76SN motherboard with 512 Kingston DDR, ATI Radeon, SB Live, Linksys USB Wireless and a 45 gig Maxtor. These to me seem like something that shouldn't be a problem, but is for some unknown reason. I will try again in about 6 months, just as I did with W2K when it first came out. Later Chris

I have had pretty much the same problems as Dali. My Hayes accura modem wouldn't work and XP wouldn't accept the drivers for it, I had to move it to another PCI slot before I got anything. My Fortissimo sound card would not run in surround sound mode at all and the sound was clicking and horrible even with updated drivers. I Bought a Hercules Game theater and that wouldn't work without a lot of messing around. I have had to reinstall XP twice and it still isn't right. It seems to change its settings without any input from me. It grinds to a halt at times and if I switch users, I can't connect to the net without rebooting. At the moment I am seriously considering going back to Win ME.

Well I upgraded from 98, and at first, everything went wrong, scanner, burner, video card, but then I had the great idea of dual boot...so now I have Win98 AND XP...well as for XP the ONLY problem I have left is this damn dirty blue screen when I shutdown, with some stop message going on about KBDCLASS.SYS...so I see some of you guys have the same problem...what the hell is with that? Now everytime I wanna shutdown/restart I have to manually press the power button...and that's a pain in the ass...not to mention scandisk going on about how crucial it is to scan my 3 drives when I boot the next time around. Any help/feedback would be great! Later.

OK, just about 15 minutes passed after my last post, and I came across Microsoft's support site, I searched and searched, and found out some interesting things about logging error messages and such...well, that didn't work BUT...I went to their update site, and found 10 updates [3 driver updates, 7 software] and guess what? The blue screen when I shutdown is gone, and everythings fine again...all I downloaded was a an update logitech driver, a 3DFX driver for XP, and an ESS Maestro driver for my sound card...weird how my sound card, video card, and mouse fixed my keyboard :) If any of you need extra help email me @ MaDMvD@tampabay.rr.com and I'll try to help ya out. Later :D

Windows XP has worked beautifully for me. The only problem that I am experiencing is that the drivers for the ACER 620P do not work. Although the ACER site claims that an XP version of the MiraScan driver is available on their website, it is missing a vital .inf file and will not allow the installation to complete. If anyone can help me with this problem, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks in Advance,

BLACK HAT
