I spilled a can of coke on my computer. as soon as it happened I turned off the laptop and wiped it as dry as I could and laced it upside down for a day. I turned it on today and the keyboard is all messed up. when i am in iternet explorere i press "h" and it opens up the history and if I press "8" it shows up as "i8" and so on... I know my computer is out of warante but it is pretty much a new computer, only a year old. does anyone know what I can do to fix this. it is an acer aspire 2010. the keyboard doesn't snap out but does anyone know if it's possible to take the computer apart and somehow be able to snap out the keyboard. I am wondering if I could then just order a new keyboard.

For now i would like to use a usb keyboard but the keys on the laptop still srew up the usb keyboard. is there a way I can disable my laptop keyboard and only use the usb one?

Running the machine any further at this point will only risk further damage. ALL power should be disconected until it is opened and cleaned.

i decided to take off all the keys and try to clean out the keyboard, I broke a couple keys in the process but hopefully it will make everything work as soon as I clean it and let everything dry. Anyone know where I can get a couple keys to replace the couple keys that will be loose?

I would say the keyboard is broken. There should be an easy way to remove the keyboard. If you can get the keyboard removed and make sure there is no liquid inside the computer then laptop should be ok, but you will have to order a replacement keyboard. In the mean time you could use and external keyboard if necessary.

Mike, I can't help you with this keyboard, but maybe I can with the next one. If you spill something in the new one you're going to have to buy, just take it out and wash it.
Yes. Remove the keyboard, then spray it out with a garden hose, or run it under the sink.

Then let the thing dry very well. Do not put it in the sun or in the oven to speed things along, just hang it where there's good air circulation and let it stay there for a couple of days.

Water doesn't destroy electronic components as long as they're not powered up.

Do not use water.
Use what is called "Tuner Wash".
That is a general name for it. It comes in a spray can.
It was used in the old days to clean the contacts of TV Tuners. It drys quickly. Water corrods metal.

Chuck2, I'm not familiar with any brand name called "Tuner Wash", but IN GENERAL, Tuner cleaners of one brand or another CAN CAUSE DAMAGE to some plastics.

Actually, I don't know about keyboards, but I've run SOME electronics--including motherboards, through the dishwasher.

(After a fire cleanup.)

In my opinion, on this specific question, the ONLY long term solution, is to replace the keyboard. Take a look on ebay. You often find keyboards or "parts machines" from people that have dropped the machine, broken the case/ display, etc.

name--

After posting my last to you, I find that I have
a can of that stuff-
"Electronic Cleaner and Degreaser"

It says "safe on plastics, rubbler, and paint"

Mike--
Just buy a new keyboard.

first mistake was letting coke dry on the keyboard
second mistake was not getting the laptop diagrams from the manufacturers site.
third mistake was not taking the keyboard out as a unit instead of removing/breaking keys.

Good news is you can order and replace the keyboard unit. Or you can just connect a regular keyboard to the rear kb interface.

Golly gee wilerkers everyone. Learn to Internet Search

Maybe the keyboard can be disabled in BIOS.
