I am having trouble hooking up a wireless router on my friend's brand new Dell with Windows XP. I have hooked my computer up successfully and thought this would be an easy task.
Unfortunately, the Linksys Wireless-B Router that we are trying to configure cannot connect to the Internet. I have checked over the addresses and they are all exactly like the setup says.
The wireless adaptor on her computer is reading the Linksys Router just fine and the Cable Modem connects to the Internet just fine if directly connected to the computer. However, during the configuration set up of the router, it won't connect to the Internet.
Any advice would be very much appreciated! =)

I assume your going to 192.168.1.1 in IE (doesn't matter if it's connected or not) and doing the router setup there.
I would reset the router if everything looks OK in the configuration program. Hold down the reset button on the back (usually) for 30 seconds. If that doesn't help, unplug it for 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, disconnect all cables to and from router and modem, shut down the computer, wait a minute (literally), and plug the cables back in, and reboot.
If that doesn't help, call Linksys. They're pretty good (if you get the right person).

If you are using wireless "G" only and have router setup with "G only" switch it to "mixed" even if you are not using any wireless "B" products - Do this at 192.168.1.1

I use Dell i8500 and it finds the wireless signal-linksys which I have- by itself. I just turn my laptop on and serve the net, just like that. Sets your computer back to the manufacture setting. If you already have the ISP modem connected to linksys wireless router, don't put it too near the computer then you should be alright.
Or click start > connect to > you will see wireless network connection tab and show all connections tab > right click wireless network connection > click enable. And wait for a minute untill the pop up Wireless network is available. If it still doesn't work then
another solution is look at the small icons at the bottom right near the clock for wireless network. Open it > high light linksys > click configure tab. Wait for a minute. It should work by now; if not, then you need to look in the Dell user guide book that came with the computer.
Cheers,Tiger-sea.
