Hi,
Occasionally I will get this problem where I will not be able to surf webpages (even though my downloads are still moving). I tried to ping webpages like google.com and yahoo but there will be time outs and no replies when the problem occurs (downloads are still moving) I will then have to reset my router or restart my computer till then I will be able to surf the net.
I have another computer in the network (total 2 nodes), and both have the same problem when it occurs (unable to surf webpages even though internet connection is still on). I’ve called my ISP and they told me my Internet connection is working fine and I strongly believe the problem lies on the router. I would like some advice on how to solve this problem as it has brought me lots of inconvenience. My router is linksys wrt54g.
I've tried asking them for help and they told me to change the MTU value but the problem is still not solved even i changed them.I also suspect this problem is cause by bit torrent?the client i am using is bit comet 0.56.
Thank you
Alvin Lim

disable the p2p program. Check the settings for it to lower the bandwith it uses.

Did you recently upgrade the firmware?
(I did and my Linksys router stopped working.)

Who is your internet provider?
(I went to my ISP website, and they listed settings for my particular router, worked fine ever since.)

I don't see how bit torrent would hurt the router. Could it be a problem with your browser?

i think i know where the problem lies..
i guess its the overflow of peers connecting to me when using bit torrent causing the router to be to busy..
anyone knows wats the maximum number of connection(people that connects to u in bit torrent so called seeders/peers) linksys wrt54g is capable of handling?

Is there a reason you have the bitto start with the computer? I only enable the program when I want to use it. There has to be settings that allow for you to disable it at startup AND configure the ammount of bandwith it uses at any given time. There should also be settings for the maximum number of uploads/downloads it allows at any given moment. Look into that.

I had the same problem... always thought it was a dns problem since my msn and icq and peer to peer stuff still work even tho I can't surf. just managed to solve it!

check the dns addresses from your router admin page and add them into your tcp/ip settings on ur computer instead of using the router ip (192.168.1.1) as the dns. surfing is much faster now too! yippie!
