Hi,
Me and my buddy would like to play old school Duke Nukem 3d vs. each other. I have a network card and he doesn't. We both have modems and were thinking that we could do it through that to no avail. We're considering using a serial line but even if we did, we have no clue on how to go about making both games work with each other. We're buying a serial line.. but let's say we connect.. what do we do next? Please in depth instructions, we're not the most computer literate.
Also we both have usb openings in our tower's.
PLEASE HELP

I'm no expert here
but if I were to try networking a computer these days without a network cardI'd use a USB network adapter.
I have a linksys USB100TX.for cases where I want to network a PC without a Card installed.
you could check prices on ebay
I think you can find them cheap these days.
Note: it will not transfer as fast as a newer network card
but should be fine for playing games.another thing you might try is
http://www.gamespy.com/not sure if they have duke nukem.
but they have alot of other similar games.if your talking a dial up modem I'm not sure how fast you'll be able to play though.
they also have alot of demos from fileplanet
I been playing the new soldier of fortune demo.

Hi! I'm not an expert too, but I think the best way would be to buy a ethernet card and to connect via cable. I don't know how if it works with two modems...Good Luck!

You can use your dial-up modems to connect (read the game's instructions for details...most games have this option). If you want a faster connection (it might not make a difference since the games are old), then your friend would need to spend some money for upgrades

Either buy a usb network adapter, or buy a Direct Cable Connection cable.
If you get the usb network adapter, you'll also need a Crossover cable, which are usually yellow network cables.
If you use DCC, you need to set up DCC on both computers, 1 as host the other as guest. Read the windows help files to guide ya through this.
Then just put both computers in the same workgroup, with different names, make sure IPX/SPX protocol is installed.
Im 90% sure thats what Duke uses for lan games.
