Greetings,

We are having a problem with some software giving us a file access denied error. Basically, our users have limited accounts. We can install the software we use as an administrator, and it works great! The problem occurs when the user (limited) logs in the program is not available, and we have to manually add the shortcut to the program.

Well, now the software won't allow a limited user access because it was installed under administrator, and a limited user doesn't have the rights to run the program. Under the security tap of the software in the Program Files folder, I give full rights to the users group, and this corrects the problem. I am now able to access the software normally, until I reach the transmit module of the software.

Now I get File Access Denied errors which stop the process, but it doesn't specify the file.

I've given full rights to as many folder as I can think of... but nothing seams to work. Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks,
Tommy

I believe you are having problem with the software accessing registry entries as the user. Install the software as the user by:

while logged in as the user. Go to the install executable

Right click on the executable

Select Run As on the right click menu

on the Run As window select the local administrator at the bottom of the window and enter the local admin password

After the program has installed, restart the computer and try the program again as the user.

If you are still getting error messages regarding file access denied. You probably need to find the entry in the registry that is the problem and apply permissions to that to fix it.

Good Luck

A program called RegShot may help you find the registry entry that is causing the problem.

It takes 2 snapshots of the registry. 1 before you open the app and the 2nd when you run the app. It will tell you items that have changed in the registry between the 2 snapshots.
