CPU/Ram: 1.2GHz 512MB
Comment:

This is driving me nuts. I have one machine that when I connect it to my 4 port router with the cable I get a limited connectivity warning and I can't connect to the internet. I have tried Unplugging the modem, the WinSock fix, flushing the DNS, another NIC, the Microsoft update, right clicking and repair (that failed). Changing the IP settings (that did change the LAN to connected, however still could not connect to the internet).
Now the strange part when I plug a different computer into the modem with the same cable the computer is connected and I can get on the internet.
So the problem lies in the first computer, does anyone have any suggestions before I try the repair install of Windows XP SP2.

Cheers

Try running the Network Setup Wizard in the Control Panel.

If you have a firewall enabled, try disabling it to see if you get a connection.

Ensure the correct nic drivers are installed. From the cmd prompt, type in ipconfig /all and see if your getting an ip address.

Run this: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sec...

Just let it do its stuff, it doesn't take very long and it gets rid of issues like these.

I had the same problem a few months back, the ISP told me it was the network card, because like you, I could run the same connection from a different computer perfectly. I even installed a new PCI network card.. which was pointless, I got home and ran that; and it worked perfectly.

If your still having issues after this, post back, its usually malware or something.

Still no joy, here is a log from Hijack this. Hopefully someone can pick something out that is causing this problem.

Hm, I don't see anything in that that could be harmful. Coincidently I am having a similar issue to you atm, except my connection is functional from this computer..

Anyway. I'm no pro at this, but I don't see anything dangerous or threatening, or anything I don't recognize. Perhaps the problem lies within your firewall/configurations.

Two of the entries are defenitely undesireable and 2 are obsolete entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Fix them then reboot and run HJT scan again, hopefully they won't reappear.

You might also want to try running a couple of spyware applications or doing a free online scan with a reputable AV vendor.

You mentioned that you unplugged your modem....Did you happen to have reset your router? Read up on reseting your router and try that...This problem is sometimes caused by a default security signal from the router to the computer. The NIC identity is auto blocked and for some reason cannot be released when the problem first occured. Resetting the router will clear the memory cache of the router and allow for connectivity

After all this, I disabled the onboard LAN again and tried a different card. Lo and behold I had internet again, the first NIC I tried must have been faulty.
Live and learn eh!

Thanks for all your help
