Help!

I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 on my home computer a Pentium 4 2.53Ghz. I use Zone Alarm, Symantec.

My son has a limited account and my husband and I both have administrator accounts.

But! AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!

The problem? From sweaty little teens log on I can access EVERY single file on the computer!!!! That would include the JPEGS from hubby's digital camera (from our weekends away, well y'know??).

How has he got that kind of access? I've been back and checked, he still has a limited account.

Right click on user folder-properties-sharing and the Don Not share option is selected.

Simple file sharing is deselected.

Yet by selecting START-SEARCH-C:\Documents and Settings he can access it all.

How do I prevent this?

You need to set the security settings on the folders and files you don't want him to see. You give Admin full control rights and his specific user account (not group) you select DENY access and he won't be able to open the file but he can see the file name.
It has nothing to do with share permissions. These are folder/file permissions.

Yeah, teens are resourceful. If they know it is there, they will try to get it and they are smarter than the average parent when it comes to hacking.

Also did you know that if you have the original cd and license key, you can do a re-install without losing all your user files but it will clean out all of your user accounts and start fresh with a new administrator account and a blank password. In others words, hide your XP cd and license number or you can find yourself locked out of your own computer.

Consider getting yourself USB external HD. Transfer all your personal files to this device. Remove (and lock up) the external HD when you are not using the computer.
