Still seem to be having problems with the and the only thing that gets it working properly again is either re-installing the firmware or unplugging and then re-connecting the cables to the CD/DVD Burner seems to make the unit work correctly again, the CD/DVD Burner and cables are fairly new and have always worked flawlessly until around the time that FireFox was installed just a couple of months ago, the power supply and power cables are all fairly new as well. I checked through everything from the previous posting suggestions and everything seemed to check out okay, the only thing that I am able to come up with would be the CD/DVD Burner to be a bad unit, although this would not make any sense as it functions properly until restarted and then if the cables are unplugged and then re-connected or the firmware is re-installed it functions normally again, very strange as when most electronic units are bad they simply do not function at all or do not operate properly without exception unlike this situation?
Thank you.

As I tell everyone, look at the event viewer first. Start, run eventvwr.msc press enter
Look for errors. There could be a conflict with Firefox, as you said.

Is the cable an 80 wire 40 connector cable?
Did you install the MBoard chipset drivers?
Does the drive show in the BIOS setup and in the POST screens at starup?
Do you have the BIOS set for Plug and Play aware OS?
How is the drive jumpered and cabled?

Okay thank you, I found several listings of this from Event Viewer from today and yesterday both times corresponding to its usage:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom1.

Previous post (I think):
http://www.computing.net/answers/ha...How about if you reboot into safe mode and then into normal mode, does that fix the problem.

Rebooted into Safe Mode and then into Normal Mode and now the unit is working correctly, strange... tried to reboot again into normal mode to see if it would fail, but worked properly, what do you think is the issue if it is in fact fixed now, as I am expecting it to fail at some point as before?
Tried to get the event id, but I already cleared it, if it keeps happening I will try to post the event id with the error from the Event Viewer.

Windows seems to do better housekeeping when booted in safe mode. I've had several weird problems cured by trying it.

Unfortunately, after restarting the system after it was off over night it went back to its old ways and in the Event Viewer the following error was listed several times:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom1.
The Event ID is 11.
