Letters 1 inch high print in Word

February 12, 2006 at 10:22:58
Specs: Win XP, IntelU Pentium III 1GHz,
My Aunt has emailed me the following and I don't know how to help her:
Yikes!
I wrote out a recipe in Wordpad, and I don't know what I hit, but when I went to print it...the letters were 1 inch high, and I cannot ge rid of it. Where I had saved it in my documents, it said Rich Text format !! How did I manage that?? I have never heard of Rich Text format , I don't think. Now every time I try to go into Microsoft Word, the cursor comes on the page ...one inch high. I even shut down the whole computer and started again, and the same thing happened.
She is running Windows XP

have you cheaked the font size?
what you could do is go back into the file in word pad and reduce the size of the font to 12.
the richtext format is the default for wordpad what you also want to do is go to save as and select txt instead of rich text.
also you do relise the curosr is the pointer where the mouse is and not the blinking line where the text appears?

My aunt says it is actually Word that is affected, not wordpad. She says the font is Arial 12 and everything looks fine, but when she prints her document it prints out with the text an inch high. She has re-started her computer and it is still happening. Any other ideas?

I don't use Microsoft word but in Microsoft works I can click the file tab, Print Preview and there is a drop down arrow that goes from 59% to 200 % she should check that and see what it is set on.

ok sounds like the pinter drivers may be playing up.

before that however look at all the settings

look at the page set up and see that everything looks correct. like the page is A4 excetera. its under the file menu if you cant see it there is a little icon near the bottom of the menu with 2 downwards tick this will expand and show the option

secondly
instead of hitting the little icon of the printer to print the file go to file menu then print. a menu will pop up showing the printer name so on and so forth. there will be a little area in the bottom right that says zoom make sure thats says 1 page per sheet and no scaling.
next there will be a printer box on the top that says what the printer is. next to it will be a button that says properies. click it.i cant help you after that as these change from printer to printer. but again makes sure its printing on A4 and not banner. if youve changed anything rember to hit apply or save in the new window that appeared after hitting properties. once youve done all that try and print again. it will bring you back to the print options and just hit the print button on options

thirdly if that fails it could be the printer driver thats nackerd. remove them and install again. thinking about it it does sound reminisent of a old windows problem that if you ran out of paper during a print and resumed it printed out 10 times the size.

see if all that help if not i am compleatly stumped
