My setting for LET WINDOWS MANAGE WIRELESS NETWORKS continues to get reset and unselected between uses. Always have to recheck this box. How to make this option permanenet and not get deselected?

Yes, uninstall the 3rd party program that wants to manage your connection.

You don't even have to do that just incase you ever want to use that program again:
1: start > run
2: services.msc
3: Find wireless 0 and click properties
4: Set startup type to automatic
Problem solved, hth.

i did this procedure and found that AUTO was already set. I am willing to remove the 3rd party program if that will work. Did I mention that this problem started ONLY after the WEP wireless password was changed?

1: start > run
2: services.msc
3: Find wireless 0 and click properties
4: Set startup type to automatic
