My son's T60 laptop goes to a black screen with blinking cursor right after the Lenovo startup screen. When I go into bios it seems to recognize the hard driveas present. I have tried starting from the Windows XP setup disk to run the recovery program to try to fix the mbr, but it says there is no hard drive present.Using the Lenovo rescue & recovery disk seems to see the hard drive as it has the last backup date and finds files changed since then Is there any way to fix this before I completely reinstall XP and lose my current data and configuration?
I found a way to fix my problem at: http://social.technet.microsoft.com... I had to change the SATA settings in the bios to "compatability" to allow the Windows XP setup to recognize the disk, Then I could enter the repair section and run fixmbr to fis the master boot record. After restarting I chnged the bios setting back to the origina "AHCI" and the system seems to be functioning now
