Hello again, Thank's for the speedy replies on my other question! I have another, I turn off automatic updates on my pc, does anyone else think that it would hurt anything to leave automatic updates off, so long as I check for updates on microsofts website periodically.

I always leave mine off, I dont have anything auto update! Doesnt matter as long as you check it every now and then.

If you leave it on and you do not have SP2, beware. Come April 14, SP2 will be installed on your PC whether or not you want it.

I thought so, I have everything set to off as far as automatic updating goes too. I used to do it in ME but I'm pretty much a newbie with XP. I have used msconfig and the system seems very fast and stable. I would recomend xp over Windows me. I never thought I would be saying that, I had ME tweaked pretty good. Thank's...

I just leave my notifier on and then install it at my own leisure, that way I don't miss anything, and also if you'd like to check periodicly without a notifier, that would be fine too.

As far as I'm concerned - the less that goes on in the background the better

I don't even have the notifier on

I just go to the Windowes Update Site - let it Scan and then do the Custom - if there's more than a couple then I do them one at a time - especially if they're big ones

Over-cautious maybe?

Lesley
