Im looking for a great freeware streaming audio recorder to record real player audio clips using xp pro. Any ideas here? Thanks
I read on my real player version 8 basic that it was upgradeable to realplayer plus which had a recorder option on it. Did it work well recording streaming audio? Good and clear? What format does it save as? Thanks for any answers here.

Here's one for streaming mp3's - http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/ssshout.htm

You should stay away from real audio. It's a lousy sounding format anyway

Thanks for the reply. What I have in mind is recording some streaming audio which is using real player to play. Most websites have a choice between windows media player or real audio. Well this format is only real audio. I want to play it using real player and record it and in the process change the format to another format to play with another program. Which program on the page you sent entails a recorder?

There is only one program on that page and it is a streamer for mp3 files.

Now please don't take the following advice as being rude, but I think you need to do some more reading on the subject. You don't record streaming audio, at least not how you are describing it. You provide a streaming server with a pre-recorded file (mp3, ra, wma, etc) This has nothing to do with a recording process.

When people talk about recording streaming audio, they are on the recieving and and trying to record/capture what is being recieved.

Ok let me put it this way, On this website,

http://www.fbccoll.wordaudio.com/

There are files I can click on and play with real player. I want to do as you say capture it and then convert it to another file type, say like a mp3 or anything that windows media player will play and either save to my computer or burn to cd.

Heres one program I have found to record but it isnt as good as I would prefer,

I am not understanding what you are saying as far as a server is concerned. It appears to me I want to accomplish what you said here,
When people talk about recording streaming audio, they are on the recieving and and trying to record/capture what is being recieved.

Thanks for being patient here but can you help me to understand the steps I need to capture the files on the page I listed and save in another format that will play in windows media player?

Ok, now I understand, you just want to capture them for playback on your own system.

There are a couple of programs that can do this. The first one I would recommend is called Total Recorder and is designed just for this. Go to - http://www.highcriteria.com/ to get it.

Another program is Gold Wave. It is basicly a wave editing program but I believe you can set it to capture audio coming from your sound card for capturing streaming audio.

Sorry about the confusion in the first two posts. I thought you wanted to set up your own streaming audio server.

I thought you had misunderstood the question, but thats ok. I downloaded the total recorder and tried it and it makes a clear recording, sounds good. Its not freeware as I had wanted but then again I dont imagine Im going to find any good freeware that does this. Since it has good quality sound, I dont mind springing for the 12 dollars they are asking. I have had several times from differant websites I have wanted to save sound but couldnt. This is the ticket. Thanks for responding.
