My laptop doesn't show post, and so I can't access the bios. When I boot up everything starts normally except the screen is completely black. The hard drives turn on, etc etc, and once it gets to the windows login screen, everything is fine. Is there some way I can get my laptop to post again? Thanks

Try tapping the F2 and Delete keys as it starts up. You should be able to get in the BIOS even if you don't see the POST.

Well the problem is that I'm pretty sure I can get into the bios, but I still can't see it because the screen is completely black.

well, if you CAN get into the bios, then do it.

now look around for boot options > post screen on/off or silent boot, quiet boot, etc.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

It sounds like you're saying that you have no video until the Windows logon screen appears. If this is the case, you have quite a tricky situation on your hands. Being unable to view the BIOS settings prevents you from doing simple (but sometimes vital) tasks, such as changing the boot order. Should Windows need reinstalling at some stage, you may not be able to boot from the Windows CD.

All I can suggest is that you make sure your boot.ini doesn't use the /noguiboot switch. That switch tells Windows not to initialize the video during the boot (POST) process.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.
