My laptop doesn't seem to "know" when it is connected to the Internet anymore. I disconnect my ethernet cable from PC and connect to Laptop. The icon pops up saying I'm connected to the Internet, but when I open browsers or email, they say I'm not connected. Help!

What is on the other end of your ethernet cable? A router or cable modem? When you switch the cable from PC to Laptop have you tried rebooting the laptop and also the router/modem?

when you try to ping google, does it resolve the name to a number (could be a dns issue)
