Well, a BSOD should 'reboot' the system, not shut it down..

A overheating issue could cause the shut down as well, or a failing power supply.

try this.. let the system be turned off for about an hour (that should cool it), boot it up and start the timer. let it get to the point where it stops, either at hit F8 to accept agreement or go into the BIOS. When it turns off then stop the timer. Let the laptop cool again for about an hour and do it all over again. Is the time it takes to shut down the same (roughly)?

My question is this.. if you let the system sit there turned on, does it shut down after a few minutes (like 10-15 min). If it does then it's not the install of XP that is the issue.

Now, if it 'reboots' (but your calling it shuts down) then that is different.
