BIG PROBLEM - i think i killed my lap top
my laptop was getting very hot from the bottom - so I opened it (after unplugging it and taking the battery out) up from the top - removed the keyboard and pulled the fan out and cleaned a whole bunch of junk off it - then put everything back - BUT now when I turn it on - the power light comes on and after few minutes I hear the fan but the screen remanis dead - nothing at all and it almost seems like only the fan is working and nothing else. Could I have friend a circuit or something? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Open it again and check all connections, even the ones you didn't touch before. It's possible you messed up the keyboard and the system won't start unless it recognizes a keyboard. Are there any beeps after powering it up?

thinks for the post!
first I appologize for posting it in XP forum - I should hav posted it on hardware - but I am not sure what the problem is.

I did reopen it and checked all the connections - everything seems to be in place. And no it is not making any beeps or any sound for that matter - I tried to do ctrl+alt+del to try to restart it but seems like the keyboard is not working eihter

Does the laptop have a PS2 port for an external keyboard? If so, try that.
