I just got a Dell Inspiron 6000 and need to know how to keep the screen on full brightness when the laptop is not connected to A/C power.
I've looked through the power settings and schemes, I'm lost!

try using your function key. Its usually the key between your Ctrl and your windows and Alt key that says Fn. Use the Fn (function key) in combination with one of your F keys (F7 or F6 most likely). The correct keys will have a little brighness symbol on them. You can adjust them that way. There are 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary, and those who don't.
Go to the BIOS setup at boot time (Usually F2 key on Dell computers) and change the default bightness there. You won't have to monkey around with Fn keys everytime you boot.
