My Toshiba Satellite A75 laptop powers down IMMEDIATELY when i pull the power cord out of the back, almost as if there is no battery connected (I've checked, there is). Its a new laptop to me, but I've used friends before and never noticed this problem. It seems like it should switch automatically to battery power, but maybe I'm wrong. Someone please respond even if its to tell me that this is whats supposed to happen.

One note for thought: My laptop directions say to unplug the power cord from the wall first before unplugging from computer.

Do you have a way to test the battery? It may be defective.

Dont laptop batteries have memories and if you keep them charging, they basically are useless. Thats what happened to mine :/

Well, this battery is a Li-ion, and I know they don't have the same memory effect that Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries do. It seems to work when I unplug the adapter from the wall first, and it also seems to work fine when i try to replicate the problem using my spare battery, so I suppose it was a combination of the two. Thanks for all your help, now I just have to get Toshiba to send me a new battery!
