recently I have been having problems with my Laptop switching itself off. This can occur after only being on for as little as 30min. The laptop is running of mains supply, and the crash occurs during several different software applications, both strenuous (games) and not so strenuous (running word). Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem. Thanks

Is the computer crashing or is it just powering down after 30 minutes?

Could be your comp is overheating. This could be because a fan is out or it could be that you have build up of dust on the CPU heatsink. Download Everest Home from Google (free) and check the temp of your MB and CPU. For dust build up you have to somehow get in there with compressed air or a vacuum ( preferably a vacuum as compressed air tends to just move the dust around. Good luck Stewart

Bit of a wit....half to be precise.

It occasionally crashes, but most of the time it powers off, then doesn't always start up again straight away.

I am not sure if this is the problem, but go to Start>All Programs>Apllications>Windows Explorer. Or just open Cnntrol panel if you know how. Then go to Power options and make sure that every thing in there is set right. Your computer may be set to turn of hard discs after 30 minutes.

That is all I can think of. HOpe you figure it out.

Thanks everyone for your quick response. I have checked the power settings on windows and they are fine. The temperature may be a problem, so I will attemp to remove any dust after work tonight.

Failing that I am stuck as I have tried new drivers, windows updates etc and none of them fix the problem

That is a good idea. There are programs out there that check your computer and give you a list of the newest drivers. I am not sure where this site is, you could probably search the internet and find it.
