laptop not charging

i have a ibm laptop. when i plugged the charger in, the computer is running but somehow it doesnt charge to the battery. i just wondering that is it something wrong with the laptop or i just need to replace the new battery? thank you

There were some bios updates to thinkpads. Seems that some were overcharging the batteries. Don't update bios unless it says that exact issue.
I kind of assume that Chris Foo is correct. The batteries will not last long to begin with. IBM suggests that you ONLY use the battery when you don't have A/C power. Keep the battery removed at all other times except to charge.
Without very special test equipment and diag info you really can't do a good test. The correct test is to try a known good battery. That in most cases means get a new one but they cost a bunch. Might see if you can return it if it doesn't fix your problem first. Not many places allow that.
