laptop most time doesnt see hd

Specs: Windows XP
laptop had new hard drive as got dreaded blue screen was told by friend it was harddrive put new one in today and started to install os and then it crashed went into bios and there was no sign of hard drive tryed a couple of times to run of cd thinking this might kick it in not very knowledgable on laptop but nothing then all of a sudden hard drive was there and started to load got to half way install of os and it crashed and harddrive gone again help please is motherboard knackered
if so gutted just spent £50 on harddrive

... the connection of the harddrive to the pin headers may need slight adjustment, check for bent pins or perhaps even a loose circuit board it only takes a hairs breadth or heat expansion to miss a contact,

... if you can have access perhaps leave a cover off so you can carefully "jig" the drive to ascertain the problem!

Your pins maybe lose or your motherboard doesnt suppourt that drive
